A couple weekends ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to join my friend, Lauren of Bohemian by the Bay, for a fun weekend staycation at The Redondo Beach Hotel. It’s a modern hotel with a beachy vibe, right in the heart of the South Bay. Like Lauren, since moving here a year ago from West LA, I haven’t been able to explore too much, so this little staycation provided that perfect opportunity.
The hotel is located in South Redondo Beach, right across the street from King Harbor Marina and a block away from the Redondo Pier. Compared to the surrounding beach cities of Hermosa and Manhattan, Redondo is a little less crowded and much more quaint. There are a lot of great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and the beach is only blocks away.
Upon entering the hotel, we were greeted by a bright, open space and friendly staff. The first thing I noticed was all the light coming in from the big windows when you first walk in. The lobby is decorated with beachy, earthy tones and has different areas where you can dine, work or just relax. The entire hotel, including the common areas, has free WiFi, which makes it great for working or surfing the web.
The hotel has 112 newly renovated rooms with harbor or city views. Our room was a Deluxe 2 Queen on the 3rd floor with a gorgeous view of the Marina. The room was pretty spacious and the beds were soft and comfortable.
We took advantage of some quality girlfriend time, something I haven’t been able to do much since having my 2nd daughter. Lauren brought some fun socks for our trip and we had the best time styling them for a cute little GIF. Needless to say there was lots of giggling involved in the process.
Lauren and I were pretty tired from the week, so the first night we stayed in and curled into bed. I connected my phone to the hotel’s flat screen TV and streamed the latest episode of Big Little Lies on HBO NOW. It was so nice to unwind after a long week and just relax.
The hotel offers a great continental breakfast, including fresh fruit, bagels, made-to-order waffles, coffee and much more. On Saturday morning, we opted to bring our breakfast to our room to take the to enjoy some quite time exploring the surrounding area. The hotel also provided us with Chameleon coffee – it’s one of the best cold brews I’ve ever had!
I do want to note that while the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast this is not a full-service hotel – there isn’t a restaurant on-site. Though, this wasn’t a problem for us during our stay since there were many food choices for lunch and dinner within walking distance. I would definitely plan ahead since there isn’t the option of room-service.
The South Bay is the area southwest of Los Angeles County, most known for its beach cities: Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beach, which are all about 4 miles away from one another. The hotel provided us with some super cute beach cruisers and we biked down to the Marina and along the Strand from Hermosa to Manhattan. It’s such a fun way to get around the South Bay! It was a gorgeous spring day and it was nice to be out in the fresh, salty air – I forgot how much I loved biking! Along the Strand, there are beautiful beachfront properties and lots of great people watching.
On the way back, we stopped by Gum Tree, a really cute café and shop in Hermosa Beach. I had the Prosciutto de Parma sandwich, which was amazing and an iced latte. The shop is such a little gem! They carry beautiful mud cloth pillows, jewelry, beach bags and much more. I basically wanted everything in there! This place is a definite stop when you visit the South Bay. Here are some iPhone snaps I took:
After we got back from the hotel, we enjoyed some in-room massages through the Joiful App – a must do when you are vacation! Then we got ready for the night and headed up to the hotel’s amazing Rooftop Deck. We took some sunset photos, listened to music and enjoyed wine from Lauren’s company, One Hope, while enjoying panoramic views of the Marina. The Rooftop Deck was definitely my favorite part about the Redondo Beach Hotel. There are plenty of great seating areas and fire pits – it’s a very cool and peaceful spot to relax and enjoy a drink. There’s also a conference/banquet room attached to the deck, making it a perfect place to host a bridal shower or baby shower or even a birthday party!
On Sunday Morning, we enjoyed another great breakfast and had a quick and easy check out at the front desk. All of the staff during our stay were very polite and accommodating!
I got dressed to enjoy a morning at the beach for solo-mommy time before returning back home to my 2 girls and husband while Lauren took a jog along the coast.
Behind me in this photo is Seaside Lagoon, a fun little water park! It’s right across the street from the hotel. I took Riley there a couple times last summer and she absolutely loved it! This is another great spot to visit, especially if you have little ones.
All in all, I really enjoyed our mini staycation at The Redondo Beach Hotel. The hotel is a great option if you are staying in the South Bay and want to have a nice beach vacation away from the busier crowds and are looking for an affordable, yet boutique-like option. I loved the modern feel and I appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel and the friendly staff. There is also year-round heated pool and spa, that we didn’t get a chance to go to since we had such a busy weekend planned already. The best part of all was that even though Lauren and I were working pretty much the whole weekend, it was great spending some girlfriend time and to get away from life’s other obligations. As a full-time working mom, I don’t get very many opportunities to do this, I felt especially grateful and revitalized after our trip.
Thanks so much for reading!
